Race Report – British BMX Series Rounds 3 and 4

So the race season is really going now. At the weekend Scott raced in rounds 3 and 4 of the British BMX Series, in what will be his last BMX race for a few months as he turns his attention back towards his Mountain Bike.

He felt great and wanted to have a good weekend on the BMX to set himself up ahead of the 4X races he has in the next few weeks.

With the race being at Scott’s local track, Birmingham, he felt confident ahead of the weekend. With just 4 laps of practice for all the riders, Scott was feeling good. In the racing, everything went exactly to plan. Winning all 3 of his qualifying races, he went into the semi final as the top qualifier. A rare mistake in his semi final mean’t he finished in 3rd to transfer into the final.

Onto the final. Scott did not have gate pick and was on gate 5. With another great start Scott simply checked out winning from start to finish. Crossing the finish line Scott had a 3 bike length lead! Stoked with the win Scott said:

“I am loving racing my BMX right now. My confidence is building and I can’t wait for round 4 tomorrow!”

Sunday arrived and Scott just wanted to get back on track and have some fun. Practice again went well. In the qualifying races, the luck of the draw meant Scott had mainly outside gates, making it tougher. With 3 great starts again, Scott took 3 wins and qualified through as the top qualifier.

In the semi final he chose gate 1. Scott rode perfect and took the win. So it was final time. Scott wanted to make this a perfect weekend by winning the final. After such a great lap on Saturday, Scott opted to start from gate 5 again, much to the confusion of his fellow competitors. In a brave move, with first gate riders would normally choose gate 1 but after some rain before the finals, Scott wanted the perfect line into turn 1. Scott made a great start but he was level through the first jumps. Into turn 1 and his gate choice really worked as he flew through turn 1 taking the lead.  From there onwards it was a case of riding smooth and controlled. Crossing the finish line, Scott was stoked:

“It has been a great winter and my training went exactly to plan. Winning the first 4 BMX Nationals is the icing on the cake. Now it’s time for 4X and my first National in over a year next week in Afan, South Wales.”

We want to thank all our team sponsors for all their support in the last year and for all their continued support for the next 2 years. Scott is riding better than ever and we can’t wait to see what 2016 will bring.

Race Season is go!

Scott Beaumont’s 2016 kicks off – British BMX Series Round 1 & 2

Well what a difference a year makes! 12 months ago, Scott competed at the 2015 British BMX series in Manchester and it was the last time in 2015 that he was 100% healthy. A crash just a few days after the race separated Scott’s shoulder which gave him some enforced time off the bike. In that time he began to feel some severe back pain and when the shoulder was healed, unfortunately his back was giving him agony!

It turned out after multiple mri’s, doctor visits and specialists that scott had 2 prolapsed discs and they were pressing on the S1 nerve which was giving him pins and needles in his left leg 24 hours a day. As you all know scott tried to push on through the season, and miraculously achieved some amazing results. However, some serious time off the bike was needed.

From the start of September until the start of January, Scott did not ride a single bike. He listened to doctors orders and worked very closely with Stefann Vossen at Core clinic in Warwick. With several sessions of Physio per week, insoles into his shoes and more scans in Warwick, Scott arrived in January and was simply let off the leash! His hunger to ride a bike again was quite overwhelming! With plenty of road rides, lots of XC mountain biking and once a week on his bmx at the national indoor BMX track in Manchester, Scott’s fitness soon returned.

Scott signed a new title sponsor deal with USN also helped this process. The international supplement supplier added their expertise to Scott’s pre season and on Saturday Scott returned to Manchester to compete in round 1 and 2 of the 2016 British BMX Series. Feeling fresh and 100% this was a moment the team had been waiting for during the last 12 months. All that was left was for the gate to drop and see how Scott rode.

With just 3 laps of practice for all the riders, Scott was feeling good. In the racing, everything went exactly to plan. Winning all 3 of his qualifying races, he went into the semi final as the top qualifier. Choosing gate 1 in the semi final, Scott nailed a perfect start and led the race from start to finish.

Onto the final. Scott once again chose gate 1. With another great start Scott simply checked out winning from start to finish. Crossing the finish line Scott had a 5 bike length lead! Stoked with the win Scott said:

“The last 12 months have been hell. It feels amazing to get back on the bike, arrive at a race and feel 100%. I can’t wait to race again tomorrow now!”

Sunday arrived and with 5 perfect laps on Saturday, the attention turned to could Scott make it a clean sweep. Playing it down as he always does, Scott just wanted to get back on track and have some fun. Practice again went well. Scott changed his line on the third straight and it looked like it was working well. In the qualifying races, the luck of the draw meant Scott had mainly outside gates, making it tougher. With 3 great starts again, Scott took 3 wins and qualified through as the top qualifier.

In the semi final he chose gate 1. In what he called: “my best lap of the weekend” Scott really rode perfect and took the win. So it was final time. With 9 wins from 9 races, Scott wanted to make his a perfect weekend. Coming from gate 1, Scott made a great start but made a mistake on the first jump, hitting his front wheel on the upside of the landing. It jolted him and he lost some speed. Heading down the 1st straight in 3rd, it was great to Boom Boom really stretch his legs, powering his way into 1st in the 1st turn. From there onwards it was a case of riding smooth and controlled. Crossing the finish line, it was quite an emotional time. Seeing Scott riding at his best doing what he loves doing after a year of injury and uncertainty, this was the comeback to beat all comebacks. With a perfect 10 from 10 race wins, Scott heads on to rounds 3 and 4 this weekend in Birmingham which is followed next weekend by his first 4X race of the season at his favourite UK track – Afan.

We want to thank all our team sponsors for all their support in the last year and for all their continued support for the next 2 years. Scott is riding better than ever and we can’t wait to see what 2016 will bring.

2015 Season Highlights Film by Lars Veenstra

2015 was a tough year for us all with injuries plaguing the whole season.

However there were plenty of good moments too and Lars Veenstra was there to capture them all at each round of the 4X ProTour.

2016 is fast approaching and we are extremely happy to introduce USN to our team partners.

Enjoy!

4X ProTour – Round 5 – Malmedy, Belgium – Yeti Racing UK Film

Here is the final film of our 2015 4X ProTour campaign.

It has been a brutal season for Scott who has fought injury all year. At the final race in Belgium, it was simply a race too far and Scott was unable to take home the overall title – finishing 9th on the day and missing the overall by just 13 points.

It was an emotional day for the whole team, captured in this film by Lars Veenstra. Scott is now back in rehab and already getting ready for 2016. He will be back stronger than ever and ready for a shot at the title.

Enjoy the film:

4X ProTour finals – Malmedy, Belgium

Scott Beaumont
Qualifying – 6th
Race – 9th

This will be one of the hardest race reports to write. Our team rider, Scott Beaumont has just been through the most emotional 2 weeks of his career with results that he would rather forget.

Plagued by a serious injury all year; 2 prolapse discs in his back, has mean’t that he has been in pain during every race in 2015. At the World Championships 2 weeks ago he had a photo finish which unfortunately did not go his way in the semi final.

This week at the 4X ProTour finals in Malmedy, Belgium, Scott had the chance to become the 2015 4X ProTour Champion. However, it was a step too far and Scott came up short on his ultimate goal of winning the title.

The track in Malmedy was huge at over 60 seconds long, it was physically demanding, which from the start of practice, Scott was aware that it was going to be a tough race for him. Limiting his practice as much as possible, Scott tried to save what he could for the race.

Qualifying arrived and the track was drying out. With no rain for the 3 hours of practice, it was all looking good.

Scott laid down a decent run that was enough for 6th position. Certainly not his best result of the year, but something similar in the race would be enough to take the overall title.

11018634_485947114903629_1293274338970414360_o

So it was time to race. Scott wheelspun off the gate in his first race and ended up finishing 2nd – enough to transfer through to the next round. In the quarter finals though it all came unstuck. With a good gate, Scott was in 2nd and looking safe. Then in turn 2 the rider in 3rd dived inside and Scott had no where to go. Re grouping Scott chased down the leaders, but in a bizarre twist, the guy in 2nd hit the biggest puddle on the track which threw muddy water all over Scott heading into 4 tight chicanes. Scott had no time to pull a tear off, so had to ride this technical section almost blind.

Exiting the chicanes, Scott had clear vision again after removing a tear off but the damage was done and Scott couldn’t make up the lost time.

Scott was out and placed 9th for the evening.

Unfortunately it was not enough and Scott missed out on the overall 2015 4X ProTour title by just 13 points. A gap that would have been bridged had he finished 7th.

It was heartbreak for Scott who has put his injuries on hold all year so he could chase the dream of winning the overall. Unfortunately the season simply took its toll this last 2 weeks and 2nd is the end result.

So right now Scott is taking a 2 week break from everything and assessing the best move for treatment of his back injuries. There will be further scans and tests, but we have a fixed goal of being back to 100% by Christmas.
